Bewitched by the lie of acquisition and consumerism, we have become a society of people whose actions proclaim the vulgar creed, “me first.” With supposed possessions in hand, we emerge as a nation of cowards, so terrified of losing what we think we have that we elevate our cravenness with ugly platitudes: family first, religion first, and nation first.
But in our cowardice, we run afoul of the Lord warning in Matthew: “He who has found his life will lose it, and he who has lost his life for my sake will find it.” (Matthew 10:39)
Richard and Fr. Marc discuss Matthew 10:32-39.
